Gond Art

GondArt

Each and every art of ancient India has a uniqueness about it. Have you heard about a painting style using dots, dashes and fine lines in it extensively, and that too with an amazing level of accuracy and geometry? There is one, and it is called as Gond Art.

Since many centuries it has been the traditional painting style of one of the largest community of central India, the Gonds. For most part of their history, they did their paintings on the mud walls of their houses; but since the 1980s, Gond Art has become famous across the world, all thanks to one talented painter, Jangarh Singh Shyam. Since many centuries it has been the traditional painting style of one of the largest community of central India, the Gonds.

Gond Art is rich in colour, mystery, details and humour; it mostly depicts mythology, animals, nature and their everyday life. The beauty of line usage here is such that it will convey a sense of movement to the viewer. They use bright, striking colours such as red, blue, white, yellow etc. made from charcoal, soil, leaves, plant sap, even cow dung.

Modern Gond paintings are also being made on canvas as well as paper, and the Indian Government is promoting it nicely. There have been exhibitions of Gond paintings in many parts of the world. Gond paintings can sell for anywhere between INR 2,000/- to 2,50,000/-.

You too can become a master of this wonderful painting style in short time and mesmerise people with your creations.
